GB SOL panels installed on Solar electric car
GB SOL panels have been used in the creation of a prototype car in preparation for the solar car which is to compete in next year's North American Solar Challenge, a rally from Texas to Alberta in Canada.
The car was built by a team from a university whose design philosophy was to source all the parts from within Wales. 'We can build a viable car within the Welsh borders', Dr Sparey-Taylor, lecturer in micro- and nano-technologies.
With a 100watt motor, the solar panels allow the car to travel at a walking pace, making it safe for the car to be used to raise awareness for solar power in schools and around Wales. It is a £700 version of an off-the-shelf design the group hope will top 100mph in tests next year.
The car is due to be launched in September of this year.
